Challenge/situation
I was looking for a database to manage my collection of vinyl records. I wanted to be able to index the database, to search the database and to change records simply. I needed to create a database that is easy to maintain and to view.
I tried several database solutions. The ‘pre‐made’ databases did not meet my needs as they were not flexible when it was necessary to add new fields.
I chose MobiDB among other database solutions because I liked the simplicity and the ability to import/export as well as to synchronise to the cloud. Editing of format of fields in database was also very important.
Experience with the app
I created a simple database with just a single table. This is all I needed, a simple and reliable app to store my data. The ability to export to PDF and to CSV is quite convenient when you need to share some definite information from the database.
Solution/results
I now have a simple database which allows me to add information about my valuable music collection. I can quickly look for records and also change them, for example if I feel I nbeed to have a record professionally cleaned I can flag that. I also keep track of the label issuing the LP which is useful when I am looking for a particular sound.
Benefits
I have a simple database on my phone which allows me to easily manage my collection of valuable LP discs. It’s backed up, flecible and quite simple to find information about my LPs.
