MS SQL Reporting Services in Silverlight is real!

The fact that Microsoft is the monopolist of the software market is incontrovertible. But no one is perfect…Microsoft has two powerful technologies: MS SQL Reporting Services that is the world recognized industry standard of report generators, and the Silverlight, a relatively new, but extremely promising technology for BI, that acquires hundreds of fans literally with every breath we make.

Silverlight promises to be the № 1 platform for BI applications creation due to the fact that it not only combines all the best of desktop applications and the convenience of web apps deployment, but delivers absolutely new developer and user experience.

So, now, let’s make a string of logic: Reporting is essential part of BI apps – MS Reporting Services is industry standard reporting tool – Silverlight is the positively inevitable future of BI apps.

Alliance of these two technologies obviously makes sense, doesn’t it?

Perpetuum Software LLC bridges this technological gap and announces the availability of Silverlight Viewer for Reporting Services, a software product allowing design of corporate reporting systems with your favorite reporting tool and their integration into Silverlight applications.

The product is fully compatible with Silverlight 3 offers a wide set of instruments for development of user-friendly and visually-appealing RIA and SaaS-applications. At your discretion, the reports can be used in applications, run out-of-browser mode or directly on the HTML page. The reports are displayed in vector graphic ensuring high quality report representation which is impossible to achieve when reports are converted to html.

Various preview and zooming modes, scrolling, interactive sorting, panning, navigation through the reports via hyperlinks, input of the report parameters, search are available. The whole set of advantages used as a rule, in the original desktop applications are now at your disposal. Delicate setup of viewer appearance is possible with the use of pre-designed as well as of custom styles and templates. All aspects of the Silverlight Viewer component behavior can be controlled from the code. Reports can be exported to the most popular formats: PDF, Excel, Html, Cvs, Xml, Mhtml and TIFF.

The current version of the product supports SQL Reporting Services 2005. The support for MS SQL Reporting Services 2008 will be available in the next release.

In his book, “Business @ the Speed of Thought”, Bill Gates writes: “The successful companies of the next decade will be the ones that use digital tools to reinvent the way they work.” The high-competitive corporate reporting system, combining advantages of two powerful technologies: Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services and Silverlight can undoubtedly stand as such digital tool!
